Birthdays in Retrospect

Life is so frail and short.  It's why I've always not been a birthday person. For me, they've always been a reminder of how little time we have left. Whether it's my birthday or yours, it always put me in a Mellecolly mood.   Most of you too are not too keen on birthday, especially as you gain in numbers.   You won't admit it, I know.  You euphemistically laugh about surviving another year, but in the back of your mind, it saddens you just a little.

This weekend is the Cat birthdays.

As fate would have it, Lexi Liu and Moshe Moshi's birthdays fall three days apart.  Though I had always posted about cat birthdays when I had Coffee, Cats n.' Yarn and Meir Cat, Chats & Fiber, I did that mostly because it was the thing to do.  They're not looking for accolades or counting wrinkles. My cats are not marking time, only I am.  So as each birthday comes, it's just a reminder that I have that much less time to spend with them.

But, there is much light and joy in this post and the occasion also.  For as much as I think of how little time is left, I also think of how happy my time has been.  Not a day goes by when I don't smile or laugh just to look at them do what cats do. As I was writing this post, Lexi decides to share the moment, by chance I'm sure. But she reminds me it's not the time that's important, it's the love you get to share while you're still here.

Happy 10th birthday, Moshe Moshi (June 19, 2007).
Happy 7th birthday Lexi Liu (June 16, 2010).
Xoxo - Me.
